A stunning screen, great cameras, superb battery life and a powerful chipset make this the best flip phone yet - but it comes at a price

Moto Razr 60 Ultra

Folding phones are no longer the hot new thing, but Motorola's Razr mobiles keep getting better. The Razr 60 Ultra is the best take we've seen on the flip format, although the cost pits it against formidable non-folding competition.

At least Motorola is providing a generous specification in return for your cash. The Razr 60 Ultra comes with 512GB of storage, the latest processor, a big 4,700mAh battery and fast charging. You also have a great range of new Pantone-branded finish options to choose from, namely Cabaret, Mountain Trail, Rio Red and Scarab - translating to a rich pinky purple, earth tones, maroon and opal green, respectively.

Aside from the new colours, Motorola deviates little from the established Razr design; the most visible change is the addition of the quick-access Al key on the left side. However, the hinge is now reinforced with titanium, making it feel snappier and more substantial. The crease in the middle of the display also seems shallower than ever - it's visible if you look for it, but not a distraction.

In all, the Razr 60 Ultra is a charming little thing. Despite the thin construction it feels sturdy, with a reassuring IP48 rating for protection against rain and accidental drops in the bath, although you'll still need to protect it from crumbs and dust.

Bright spots

The Razr 60 Ultra's main display is a 7in fold-out AMOLED panel. It looks great, with impeccable detail, wide viewing angles and bright colours. And I do mean bright: it peaks at a blazing 1,112cd/m² with SDR content but goes to a wear-sunglasses-to-protect-your-eyes 1,835cd/m² when viewing HDR films. It's a delight to use this phone in any conditions, and few rivals are capable of getting close to this level of luminance. Colour coverage is superb - well beyond 100% of the DCI-P3 gamut - and if the colours are too much then you can always switch to Natural mode.
