The processor, commonly known as the Central Processing Unit (CPU), is the brain of any computing device. It's the component responsible for executing instructions from programs by performing the basic operations of fetching, decoding, and executing commands. The processor concept dates back to the early days of computing, with the first recognizable CPU, the Intel 4004, introduced in 1971. This tiny 4-bit microprocessor, designed for a calculator, marked the beginning of a technological revolution, paving the way for the powerful processors we depend on today.
