OpenAl has released new research claiming that its flagship artificial intelligence model, ChatGPT, now rivals human experts across 44 different professional domains, from law and medicine to finance and education.

OPENAI SAYS CHATGPT MATCHES HUMAN EXPERTS IN 44 PROFESSIONS

The announcement underscores both the rapid improvement of generative Al systems and the growing debate about how far they can or should go in replacing human expertise.

THE RESEARCH FINDINGS

According to OpenAl, the study evaluated ChatGPT against benchmark tasks used to measure human competence in professional fields. These included bar exam-style legal reasoning, medical case analysis, financial forecasting, programming challenges, and technical writing. In many areas, ChatGPT reportedly scored at or above the level of trained professionals, demonstrating not just memorization but applied reasoning.

The company stressed that the evaluation was not limited to text recall. Instead, the Al was tested on its ability to synthesize complex information, generate recommendations, and provide explanations that could withstand professional scrutiny.

imagePROFESSIONS HIGHLIGHTED

Among the 44 professions cited, ChatGPT performed strongly in:

Law: Drafting contracts, summarizing case law, and answering exam-like questions.

Healthcare: Providing diagnostic reasoning and outlining treatment options, though with disclaimers about not replacing doctors.
