APPLE INTRODUCES NEW AIRTAG WITH EXPANDED RANGE AND IMPROVED FINDABILITY
AppleMagazine
|January 30, 2026
Apple has unveiled an updated version of its AirTag tracking accessory that includes improvements to how users locate items and how far away those items can be found using Apple's Find My app, marking the first significant hardware upgrade for the device since its original release in 2021.
-
The new AirTag maintains the same fundamental role - helping people keep track of and find everyday belongings such as keys, bags, and luggage - while incorporating internal updates that increase detection range, make Precision Finding more effective, and produce louder audio alerts to assist in recovery.
IMPROVED PRECISION FINDING AND RANGE At the heart of the refreshed AirTag is a secondgeneration Ultra Wideband chip, the same class of chip featured in recent Apple devices such as the latest iPhone 17 lineup, iPhone Air, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Apple Watch Series 11. This upgraded chip enables Precision Finding — which uses haptic, visual, and audio cues to guide users to an item's location - from up to 50 percent farther away than before.
In addition to enhancements in Precision Finding, an improved Bluetooth radio expands the range at which the AirTag's signal can be detected. Users should be able to locate misplaced items over greater distances when compared with the prior generation of AirTag hardware.LOUDER FINDING ALERTS
