Poole: Cov on right track to win promotion
The Rugby Paper
|December 08, 2024
CAPTAIN Jordan Poole says Coventry are on track to finish the club’s three-year plan with promotion to the Premiership this season.
Earlier this week, the Midlanders confirmed their formal application for promotion to the top flight and after winning each of the opening six rounds, sitting top of the pile, Coventry fans are daring to dream.
Hooker Poole, 27, who has been at the club for three, told The Rugby Paper: “We sat down at the start of the season and said ‘this is the year that the club have targeted’. I signed with the club three seasons ago and recall (head coach) Alex Rae mentioning the plan to get promoted within three years. Here we are. It’s the right thing to do for the club but there’s still a few things to get it over the line in terms of the minimum standards criteria.”
Standing in their way for promotion are their Championship title rivals, with a blockbuster top of the table clash with reigning champions Ealing Trailfinders in a fortnight.
If Coventry can hoist the second tier title for the first time in their history there is still a block in the road with a home and away play-off against the Premiership’s bottom team.
