MacGinty: Expect big hitters at No.10

AJ MacGINTY was not surprised at the Premiership salary cap report’s revelation that outside-halves are the highest earners in the league.
But the Bristol and United States 10 did not expect the average pay for a fly-half to be nearly double that of a scrum-half.
The report, which covered last season when Owen Farrell was at Saracens, showed that the mean average salary for an outside-half was £231,182, considerably more than the £119,614 for a scrum-half.
“There are some heavy-hitting 10s in the Premiership and they will drag the average up,” said MacGinty, who has been with Bristol since 2022 having spent six years with Sale.
“Handre Pollard has won the World Cup twice, so he has earned it, as has Finn Russell, rugby’s Messi. George Ford is nudging 100 caps for England and has been around for a long time.
“You cannot argue with those guys earning big money, but as much as we talk about outside-halves being the game managers, there are international scrum-halves who are controllers.
