'I want to prove my worth to Bath'

OUT-OF-FAVOUR winger RuBath aridh McConnochie is hoping to use the Premiership Cup to lay down a challenge to Johann van Graan and make his selection claims impossible to ignore.

The former England flyer continues to have open dialogue with his South African boss about where he fits into his plans. But at present, McConnochie sits firmly behind Will Muir and Joe Cokanasiga in the pecking order.

Even when those two were sidelined with a knee and a head injury, van Graan opted to play full-back Tom de Glanville and centre Will Butt out of position as well as handing a debut to rookie, Austin Emens.

McConnochie's Premiership start of the season came in Bath's worst performance so far, the derby defeat at home to Bristol in round three, and he sat out the next three rounds. However, the 33-year-old is deteronly mined to reset the needle in the Premiership Cup, and two tries in last week's 73-0 win at Ampthill was a good start.

"A lot of me is frustrated in terms of I want to play more, I want more game time. But I know it is elite sport, it is professional rugby, it doesn't just happen because you want it," said McConnochie, who scored two more in yesterday's win against Bristol.
