MATT'S LEARNT FROM MISTAKES
The Non-League Football Paper
|December 08, 2024
HAS anyone heard from Matt Uggla recently? No twitter spats? No accusations of incompetence?

Funny that. Not so long ago, York City’s 30-year-old owner could barely take two steps without leaving a trail of controversy and unwanted headlines.
Remember the infamous online rumble with Mark Cooper, who Uggla accused of bullying unwanted signings at Yeovil?
And don’t forget the hilarious post-watershed argument with Scarborough manager Jonathan Greening, culminating in the former York midfielder posting clown emojis and Uggla blacklisting the Seadogs forever more.
Accompanying these public embarrassments were murky mutterings of interference in team selection and a frantic transfer policy directed by influential agents.
Having bought a 51 percent stake in York in the summer of 2023, Uggla spoke sensibly of learning from the mistakes he’d made during a bungled attempt to buy Yeovil, and promised a more measured approach to recruitment than he’d shown at Huish Park.
Initially, those words rang hollow. Two managers came and went. A fresh raft of transfers left the squad simultaneously bloated and imbalanced. A relegation battle ensued.
