LOWER LEAGUE TO THE BRIGHT LIGHTS!
The Non-League Football Paper
|June 15, 2025
FROM the Midland Combination to the bright lights of Goodison Park with an In-vincibles season at Barwell in between, Marcus Law’s journey in management has been long and winding.
Now, having been out of the dug-out for a period of time, the former Bar-well, Tamworth and Kettering Town boss is determined to make a return to the dugout.
Here he revisits his best memories in management - so far.
FIRST JOB
My journey began at Coventry Sphinx, when the club was setting up their junior team. It was at Midland Combination, Step 6, and those grass-roots beginnings taught me more than any coaching badge ever could.
After spending six months in my role, I was approached by former teammate Ian Drewitt, who had recently taken on the role of play-er-manager at Bedworth United. He invited me to join him as assistant manager, a position I accepted. I spent the next season-and-a-half contrib-uting to the club’s development and matchday operations.
Midway through my time at Bed-worth United, I was invited to meet the chairman of Racing Club War-wick on a Tuesday evening while the team was away at Cradley Town. Following the meeting, I was offered the managerial position the very next evening and was asked to begin preparations immediately for the up-coming Saturday fixture.
However, my first training session on Thursday evening was marked by an awkward situation: my predeces sor unexpectedly arrived, unaware of the change! It became clear that the chairman had neglected to in-form him of his decision, leading to a difficult few hours!
FIRST SIGNING
At Sphinx, the first signing was one of Adie Fisher (midfielder), Roy Down-ing (left-back), or Ashley Pringle (centre-half). A standout early capture was a 15-year-old Jamie Towers, who went on to have a superb Non-League career with Nu-neaton and Leamington.
