Davies puts a dent in York hopes

WILL DAVIES inflicted revenge on York City after returning to haunt his former club with a two-goal blast to dent their title hopes.

The Sutton United wide man netted a quickfire first half to open up a surprise 2-0 lead at a shell-shocked LNER Community Stadium.

Dipo Akinyemi halved the deficit seven minutes from time to set up a tense finale but Sutton held on to inflict only a second home defeat of the season on Adam Hinshelwood's men.

"We said about having a two-week break and blimey, it looked like we were still on our holidays," a frustrated Hinshelwood said.

"In the first time in a long time, especially here at home, the first-half was way off it in terms of competing.

"The corner, we don't concede too many from corners, but it was just a ball in the box and their lad [Davies] looked like he wanted to win it. He's obviously been at the club and he's playing with a bit of hunger.
