National governing body's major events team to take leading role in safeguarding future of both races
The men’s and women’s Tours of Britain have been saved by British Cycling, with the body’s major events arm taking a leading role in the rescue mission.
Headed up by BC’s former National Cycle Sport Manager, Jonathan Day, the events team will lead on negotiations with local authorities on potential stage locations.
BC revealed last week that it had been given the green light by the UCI to progress plans for the men’s race. The federation is also aiming to deliver a women’s Tour of Britain which will take the calendar slot formerly held by the Women’s Tour.
Time constraints imposed by the liquidation of the former promoter of both events, SweetSpot, may mean that the women’s race has to be shortened this June. As of yet, no race routes, sponsors, or stage details have been finalised for either race.
