Will WTC 2025 And Champions Trophy 2025 Mark The End Of Rohit Sharma's India Career?

Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma bid adieu to T20I cricket after helping his nation win the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 held in the USA and West Indies. Rohit, who had a strong performance, decided to call it quits after getting the job done as India won their 2nd ICC T20 World Cup crown. It was a fitting farewell for a legend who, alongside veteran Virat Kohli, curbed down on one format to focus on ODIs and Tests. Both players left the T20I stage with over 4,000-plus runs and a long spell of sheer dominance. The timing was perfect, as the World Cup win was the best possible exit route. India are now focusing on a new journey under Suryakumar Yadav.

Rohit, who is 37 years old, will be hungry to add two more laurels to his cabinet as Indian skipper. As India broke the ICC tournament trophy jinx after 2013, Rohit will now use this to help his side dominate the world stage. There are two major trophies in store next year. One is in Test cricket - the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle - the other is the coveted ICC Champions Trophy, which marks its return after 2017 when India lost in the final. India reached the finals of both the ICC World Test Championship 201921 and 2021-23 cycles but returned empty-handed, losing to New Zealand and Australia. Rohit would want this badly as his career is in its final stage. India reached the 2023 World Cup final at home but lost the trophy clash. So, a win in the Champions Trophy would be a perfect way to bounce back from that setback.

Rohit, who will turn 38 next year, could use both these tournaments to move away from the sport. Winning both honors would be a satisfying achievement. Here, we analyze whether the World Test Championship and ICC Champions Trophy would mark the end of Rohit’s India career.
