Scientists have found a way to “digitally unroll” a scroll that was burnt to a crisp nearly 2,000 years ago.

Ancient scroll decoded

The scroll is one of a collection of hundreds from a Roman house in Herculaneum, an ancient town in Italy. In AD79, the towns of Herculaneum and Pompeii were buried under hot ash and dust when nearby volcano Mount Vesuvius erupted.
