CLASSIC MOMENTS Fatal Fury
Retro Gamer
|Issue 245
So far, the combatants of Fatal Fury have been pretty fearsome types

» PLATFORM: NEO GEO » RELEASED: 1991 » DEVELOPER: SNK
There are the main characters – Terry’s got street-fighting savvy, Andy has ninja skills and Joe’s got his kickboxing. Then there are your opponents, like obvious Mike Tyson homage Michael Max, and the bizarre dance-inspired fighting style of Duck King. None of them would look particularly out of place in a standard martial arts film, and the difficulty of the game certainly backs up their toughness.
Then there’s Tung Fu Rue, a diminutive old man who looks more like he’s ready for a nice cup of tea and some Bargain Hunt than a good scrap in the rain. But that’s why you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, as Tung soon undergoes some rapid muscular growth that leaves him looking like he’s about to enter the Arnold Classic. Forget collecting a pension, this guy’s about to collect your name – after he kicks your ass, of course.
