Looking back, ARC Raiders' first fortnight of life may have raised some unrealistic expectations.

Arriving hot on the heels of the game itself, the North Line update added a fifth map, Stella Montis, which took the fight from wide vistas and long sightlines to the tight quarters of a multilevel warehouse facility, and introduced a new ARC variant, the Shredder, a sort of juddering sentient shotgun.

March's Flashpoint update released the Shredder from Stella Montis to roam the game's four other maps. It's the kind of conservative change that has characterised Embark's post-launch updates. New ARCs are essentially new weapons strapped to a familiar chassis – though recognising the Vaporizer as a laser-equipped Rocketeer doesn't stop our hands shaking the first time one gouges a flaming line in the ground.
