Amid growing regional competition in defence technology, a prominent defence initiative is strengthening ties with India through successful artillery and air defence programs. This collaboration aligns with India's strategic focus on bolstering domestic defence manufacturing and reducing reliance on imports. By fostering advanced technology transfer and enhancing local production capabilities, the partnership is poised to transform the defence landscape in Asia, showcasing significant achievements in artillery systems, air defence solutions, and aerospace innovation

South Korea's Hanwha Aerospace is expanding its presence in India through successful artillery and air defence programs while setting sights on the nation's growing defence manufacturing sector. Hanwha Aerospace’s strategy aligns with India's push to become a major defence equipment producer, marking a shift in the region's military-industrial landscape.
K9 Vajra Success Drives Local Manufacturing Push
The K9 Vajra-T self-propelled howitzer, manufactured through a partnership with Indian engineering firm Larsen & Toubro, showcases the success of India's domestic defence production. With more than 50% of components produced at L&T's Hazira facility, the program has already delivered 100 units ahead of schedule, prompting a repeat order for another 100 systems.
The artillery system's proven performance in high-altitude regions like Ladakh has led to enhanced engines for the next batch. The K9 Vajra-T's 155mm/52-caliber gun delivers precision fire at ranges up to 40 kilometers, maintaining a rapid-fire rate of six rounds per minute in burst mode and 2-3 rounds per minute in sustained operations.
The system's success in varied terrain demonstrates its adaptability to India's diverse geographical requirements. From the deserts of Rajasthan to the mountainous regions of Ladakh, the K9 Vajra-T has proven its reliability in extreme conditions. The platform's ability to operate effectively in high-altitude areas has been particularly noteworthy, addressing a critical capability gap in India's artillery forces.
One of the most advanced features of the K9 Vajra-T is its Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact capability. This sophisticated firing mode allows the howitzer to launch several rounds at different trajectories, ensuring they all strike the target simultaneously—a tactical advantage that can overwhelm enemy defenses and create decisive battlefield effects.
