Colour like Wes

Wendy Evans explains how to use Affinity to give your images a Wes Anderson vibe

Last month (issue 301, page 36), we adapted an extract from the book Shoot Like Wes that revealed some of filmmaker Wes Anderson's stylistic devices. This month, we'll show you how to create a Wes Anderson colour scheme and save it as a lookup table (LUT).

Firstly, Wes uses different colour palettes, so you can't do everything in one, all-encompassing routine. In this tutorial, we're looking at the colours in the Asteroid City film from 2023, but you can use the same processes to create either macros or LUTs for other colour palettes. That's the second point; saving the process as a macro gives more overall control, which you might need because all images start with different colour values; however, a lookup table is a quick and easy option.
