WOOF: The Yorkshire Dog Shop has become an essential stop for dog owners in and Oakwood and beyond since it was founded by husband and wife team Natalie and Robert Press in 2021. And there is more than healthy treats and grooming products on offer - the store hosts informative discussion with vets, dentists and dietitians. CHARLES GRAY found out more

Natalie said: “We wanted to offer more than just healthy treats and advice.
“While we have developed into a must-visit for the more health-conscious dog lover, we started under very different circumstances but with equally positive intentions back in December 2021.
“We wanted to give our son Toby a chance to practice his interpersonal skills and as a foundation for his future following his autism diagnosis in July 2021.”
Tell us more about how it's helped Toby.
“We wanted him to have a working experience and be ready for a career or employment when he was older in an environment where we knew the local community could be supportive,” said Natalie.
“He struggled at the time with his education so we thought that this was the best thing for his future.”
So how did you make the store more autism-friendly?
“We spread products around the store, having sensitive lighting and making the experience as user-friendly as possible,” said Natalie.
“Toby still helps out at the store on Saturday mornings with stocking shelves and offering advice to customers.
“He's developing his skills in other areas now but he always has this place.”
What's different about the products you sell?
