As grassroots music venues fight for survival, a number of established artists have stepped forward to underline their importance-and, in some cases, to provide direct financial support.

Glen Tillbrook, co-founder and frontman of Squeeze, has been one of the sector's most consistent champions and has publicly backed calls for a grassroots levy and regularly points to the small venues where his own career was forged.
