Things that go bump in the night - just try not to die laughing

As TV related guilty pleasures go, watching Most Haunted is right up there with the best of them.

When it's a boring weekday evening and you're faced with nothing more exciting than the drearily worthy Repair Shop or yet another rerun of Vera, it makes a lighthearted option.

Because much of it has to be based in comedy. The shaking of the handheld camera, presenter Yvette Fielding's eyes like two hard-boiled eggs as she describes a slight knocking in the next room... it's not scary but it is great fun.

In this particular episode, the crew decamped to a very chilly Ancient High House in Stafford's High Street. Built in 1595 by the Dorrington family, the town house-turned-museum boasts the title of the largest timber framed town house in England.

It's also reportedly one of the most haunted buildings in the area, with visitors hearing doors closing on their own, strange voices and ghostly figures. So off the guys go in the hope of capturing proof that spooks do exist.

The fact that in all the episodes they've never yet managed to record anything more meaningful than a few knocks and an orb or two doesn't dampen their enthusiasm.
