Real cost of fast fashion

A fundamental problem with the fast fashion industry is its overproduction, creating approximately 80 billion garments annually.

- May Puckey, via email

This results in immense waste; in the United States alone, 34 billion tonnes of textiles are discarded each year. While 66 per cent of this ends up in landfills, the 15 per cent labeled as 'recycled' is often misleading. Half of these items are exported to countries such as Ghana to be sold at the Kantamanto Market, the world's largest used clothing market.
