Developer is confirmed for station revamp

Wakefield Council has confirmed the appointment of a developer to deliver a new hotel at the site of the former city-centre railway station.
ION Developments has been chosen to construct a 110-room facility at the old Westgate station to meet “growing demand from visitors and business travellers”.
The council also said a “major brand” to operate the new hotel would be announced soon. The local authority bought the old station site for almost £600,000 in an agreement with Northern Rail in 2023 as part of a regeneration masterplan for the city.
