Youth charity issues plea to public for vital support

A YOUTH charity has launched a new campaign to safeguard its future, warning that young people across the county could be left without vital support unless funding is secured.

SPACE Youth Services, one of the last remaining countywide youth support organisations in the UK, has unveiled its “Investing in Devon's Young People, Together” campaign during National Youth Work Week, which began on Monday.

The charity, which has been operating in some form for over 40 years, says it provides a critical lifeline for more than 7,000 young people each year offering mentoring, youth clubs, skills-building sessions, and one-to-one support.

Dan Barton, chief executive of SPACE, said: "Devon is one of the last counties to keep its youth services. That makes us proud but it also makes us vulnerable. We need the public’s help to protect what works, so that no young person in Devon is left without the support they need."
