Warnings at amber level for gales and cold impacts

THE Met Office has issued a “danger to life” warning as stormy weather is expected to bring strong winds to Cornwall.

The weather forecaster said the storm, which has officially been named Storm Goretti by Meteo France, may bring a spell of very strong winds for a time this evening, January 8, with a risk of damage and disruption.

An amber weather warning, a higher rating than more common yellow weather warnings, has been put in place for the westernmost tip of Cornwall from 5pm to 11pm today.

The Met Office warned that there is a small chance of danger to life and people suffering injuries as a result of large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties. There is also a small chance that flying debris could cause injuries and pose a danger to life.
