Moorlands to host on-farm suckler sale

A DARTMOOR cattle farmer is set to sell off part of his suckler herd.

Layland and Gill Branfield have made the decision to reduce the number of cows at Moorlands, Princetown by means of an on-farm sale. Conducted by Stags, around 60 Stabiliser cows with Charolais calves will be going under the hammer on Tuesday, August 12.
Stabiliser bulls were first used at Moorlands Farm in 2004. All of the cows are homebred and since 2013, artificial insemination has allowed the use of bulls imported as embryos tested for net feed efficiency and with impressive profit figures.
Latterly sexed semen has been used in order to concentrate on the best-performing cow families.
