Lib Dems call for more pre-Budget scrutiny and 'Office for the Taxpayer'

SIR Ed Davey has called for MPs to be able to debate the Government's budget before it is finalised.

In a speech at the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) in central London, the Liberal Democrat leader also argued there should be an “Office for the Taxpayer” based in Parliament.
He said: “I think we should look at a budget process more like the one Sweden brought in when it faced its own budget crisis in the early 90s. When its debt soared to just over 70% of GDP.
