Festival promises deeper links to region's fishing heritage

A mouth-watering set of seafood events are planned for the English Riviera this autumn. Athwenna Irons reports

ORGANISERS of England's Seafood FEAST have confirmed its return to the English Riviera this autumn, promising "exceptional flavours, exclusive experiences and a deeper connection to the region's fishing heritage".

Taking place across the towns of Brixham, Paignton, and Torquay, the event invites visitors to savour tasting menus at award-winning restaurants, meet the people behind the catch, and enjoy dining experiences celebrating the area's fishing heritage and commitment to sustainability.

Chefs Mitch Tonks and Simon Hulstone will appear, with Simon also celebrating the 20th anniversary of his acclaimed restaurant, The Elephant.

Encompassing dozens of events from Friday, September 26 to Sunday, October 12, this year's festival organisers say it showcases the very best locally landed seafood through chef-led tastings, wine pairings, market tours, and 'catch and cook' adventures. With more than 40 species caught at the Brixham Fish Market - from sweet crab and plump scallops to Dover sole and monkfish - the English Riviera's coastal waters offer some of the freshest and finest seafood in the world.

Kelly Widley, Seafood FEAST programme curator, said: "England's Seafood FEAST is a celebration that delights all the senses. Our mission is to encourage visitors to explore the rich culinary traditions of our coastal communities while enjoying the freshest British seafood in a lively and enjoyable atmosphere."
