Wrexham in running to be City of Culture 2029

Wrexham is the only Welsh city which has made the longlist

The city joins Blackpool, Inverness-Highland, Ipswich, Middlesbrough, Milton Keynes, Portsmouth, Sheffield and Swindon on the longlist.

The UK Government say winning the title will have enormous benefits for local communities, with previous hosts attracting millions of pounds in additional investment and thousands of visitors to their area, and generate new jobs.

Separately, there have been 230 towns which have had registers of interest made for the UK’s first-ever town of culture.
