University student, 20, killed by speeding driver

Lucy Atkins and her Lakeland terrier were killed by Danielle Mitten, right

Cardiff University student Lucy Atkins, 20, died after being struck by the car which was driven by Danielle Mitten, 34, at 63mph.

The family’s Lakeland terrier Simba was also killed in the collision, which happened in Quinton, Birmingham, on June 24, 2024.

West Midlands Police determined that prior to the crash Mitten had been driving at speeds of up to 82mph, more than double the 40mph speed limit.
