Josh Wilcox was also sentenced in court for an “unprovoked” attack on a woman he didn’t know.

Emma Harris, prosecuting, told Cardiff Crown Court that in December 2022, Stacey Young went to a house in Aberavon to collect a phone from the home of Kayla Howells. When she left her car, Wilcox struck her to the face with a knuckleduster knife.

Ms Young did not know Wilcox and the judge described it as a “surprise and unprovoked attack’

‘The court heard Ms Young saw the 5-7in blade before Wilcox ran away.

‘The victim sustained a gash to the back of her head, needed stitches on the inside of her mouth and chipped a tooth, which led to her needing three teeth removed.

In a victim impact statement read to the court, Ms Young said: “The assault has had a profound impact on my life. I turned to drinking and was drinking daily as a coping mechanism.
