Social media conduct is biggest cause of complaints against MSs

CONDUCT on social media was responsible for the biggest proportion of complaints against Senedd members over the past year, the body's commissioner for standards has revealed.

Douglas Bain said complaints about inappropriate use of social media by MSs prompted more complaints than anything else.
Overall, the number of complaints against Senedd members in 2024-25 fell from 190 in 2023-24 to 136 in 2024-25, a drop of 33%, according to Mr Bain’s annual report.
Conduct on social media was the reason for 44 of the complaints received between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025.
“There were also 15 complaints about the standard of service provided by members, 22 about conduct in plenary or ministerial conduct and 12 about a failure to notify a change to registered interests within the permitted four-week period.
