Mabon at Caldicot Castle celebrates the magical change in seasons and exquisite Welsh cooking and produce, as Lifestyle editor Kathryn Williams finds out

- Kathryn Williams

IF YOU tell me about a four-course fire feast from Hang Fire BBQ that celebrates the autumn equinox in one of our glorious Welsh castles, do not expect me not to go.

Mabon, held last weekend at Caldicot Castle and Country Park has been created by a meeting of minds between Wales' pit-maestros Sam and Shauna of Hang Fire along with food fest experts Street Food Circus, known for Forest Feastival down in Merthyr Mawr and the St Donat's Fantastic Fete - amongst other events that bring together just simply brilliant street food.

Mabon takes inspiration from the pagan thanksgiving of the same name - a moment of balance and harmony when day and night are equal - but equality, this time, is not present as the event's offerings are just a gold standard of Welsh food and cooking, proving that Wales has the skill, provenance of produce and top-class venues to give foodies exactly what they need, even if they didn't know it.
