Residents wake to extremist graffiti
Western Mail
|September 12, 2025
RESIDENTS in a Valleys town were alarmed to wake up and find a swastika and extremist graffiti painted in multiple locations.
A local councillor described the situation in Maesteg as "alarming", adding that it needs to be "nipped in the bud."
South Wales Police has confirmed it is investigating the offensive graffiti. It comes weeks after a community in Cwmbran was forced to come together to clean road signs and bus stops in Cwmbran after they were graffitied with the colours of the England flag.
As well as the flags, a swastika was also painted in the village of Henllys.
In many English towns flags are being displayed both legally and illegally as part of an unofficial national campaign. The trend of painting flags coincides with a highly charged political backdrop across the UK, with campaigns linked to illegal immigration and asylum hotels.
