Relegation could be best thing to happen to Cardiff – Ferguson

|August 06, 2025
PETERBOROUGH United boss Darren Ferguson believes Cardiff City’s relegation to League One could prove to be the best thing that’s happened to the club in years - and insists they've made the right call in appointing Brian Barry-Murphy.
-
The Bluebirds began life in the third tier with a 2-1 win over Ferguson’s Posh on Saturday, securing three points thanks to goals from Rubin Colwill and Ronan Kpakio in Barry-Murphy’s first league game in charge.
Despite the defeat, Ferguson was full of praise for the direction Cardiff are taking and backed the club's bold decision to hit the reset button by going younger and backing their new manager's vision.
“I think they've made a clear decision that they're going to go a lot younger and they've got some good young players,” he said.
