PENALTY CALL WAS CRUCIAL, SAYS SHEEHAN
Western Mail
|September 29, 2025
SWANSEA City boss Alan Sheehan says he will seek an explanation as to why referee Dean Whitestone didn’t award his side a penalty during a frustrating stalemate with Millwall.
Swansea striker Zan Vipotnik was adamant he should have been handed a spot-kick midway inside the second half, claiming he had been pulled back by Lions captain Jake Cooper while trying to get on the end of Josh Tymon's low cross.
Whitestone was unmoved, much to the frustration of Sheehan, who was left in no doubts over the decision.
“Itwas a stonewall penalty -I don’t know what else to say,’ Sheehan said.
“These are the decisions right now. We had one last week and now this one.
“When the league is so tight, with teams from the bottom beating sides at the top, these are the games in which you want to keep accumulating points, so it’s a decision I feel the referee got wrong.
“You have to give referees 30 minutes after the game before speaking to them and so I'll be asking him why he got it wrong.
