Parents in shock over paedophile revelation
Western Mail
|January 09, 2026
PARENTS are reeling after a school sports coach was exposed as a paedophile who hoarded child abuse images.
Ciaran Bright is understood to have spent years in what was effectively a PE (physical education) teacher role at Cardiff's Christ the King Catholic primary school.
Last week we reported the 30-year-old had been handed a suspended nine-month jail term for downloading eight indecent images of children. The case led to him losing his job as a coach at Sports Xtra Cardiff, which runs sports activities for children aged from four to 12.
Now we can reveal Bright worked at the primary school in Llanishen where Sports Xtra runs PE sessions in school hours as well as an after-school club.
Bright - whose role included one-to-one coaching - was arrested and suspended from his job in July. But parents only learned of the case last week when WalesOnline broke the news.
"Nobody ever said where he had gone so everyone assumed he was teaching in another school or club," one parent told us.
"I'm really shocked. The fact that he had contact with children during class and in after-school and holiday clubs is alarming.
