Pack of dogs attack mum and bite newborn baby

Staffordshire bull terriers attacked a woman as she was carrying her six-day-old baby, who was left with a cut to the head after being bitten and clawed. The mother described feeling “the worst pain had ever experienced” and required multiple operations and skin grafts.

Jason Stafford, 49, was the owner of the three dogs which became dangerously out of control and latched on to the victim's feet and wrist during the savage attack in Cardiff. The three Staffordshire bull terriers have been destroyed as a result of the incident.

A sentencing hearing at Newport Crown Court on Tuesday heard the attack took place on March 30 when the dogs set upon the victim as she was carrying her six-day-old baby in her arms.

One of the dog's claws caught the baby’s head and the baby was bitten, but fortunately the baby’s injuries were relatively minor.

Another dog went for the mother and bit her foot and locked on. In his sentencing remarks, Judge Daniel Williams said the pain felt by the victim was “the worst she’d ever experienced”.

The judge added: “I've seen the photographs, which are dreadful.”

The mother was dragged to the ground with the baby still in her arms and she was attacked for what she believed to be 15 minutes.
