Officer banned from policing after drink-driving conviction

POLICE officer drove to work while over the alcohol limit then got behind the wheel of a force vehicle.
It was not until after he returned to the station in the marked vehicle that he was rumbled by a colleague who smelled alcohol on his breath.
Nils Rattan, at the time a Pe with South Wales Police, had reported for duty at 5pm on June 20 after driving his own vehicle to Cardiff's Ely police station.
Chief Constable Jeremy Vaughan said: “Shortly afterwards, he was tasked to pick up a colleague who was on duty in the area. Pc Rattan drove a marked police vehicle to do so and arrived back at the police station approximately 10 minutes after leaving”
On his return Rattan had a conversation with Acting Sgt Powderhill, who noticed he was sweating, his eyes were glazed, and his breath smelled of “intoxicants”.
