DAVID Hughes was sacked by Newport County in the wake of Saturday’s defeat at Shrewsbury Town.

“Maybe a new manager gets something that I can't,” he later admitted. County suffered an 11th defeat in 16 league games and are now four points from safety at the bottom of League Two after defeat to the team who started the day in 23rd.
Hughes was dismissed soon after the final whistle at New Meadow and revealed as much in his post-match interview, with the news later confirmed by the club in a statement. It read: “Newport County AFC can confirm that, following a disappointing start to the season, the club has parted company with Dave Hughes and assistant manager Wayne Hatswell.
