Approval for works at historic hotel

RENOVATION works on a historic Welsh hotel, believed to be one of the first coaching inns in Wales and possibly dating back to 1105, have been approved by local planners.

The Black Lion Hotel, Cardigan
Wells Jones has submitted an application to Ceredigion council seeking permission for new toilets, a storage area, patio, minor internal alterations and associated works at the Black Lion Hotel on Cardigan’s High Street.
A statement from agent Archi-Tech revealed the three-storey Grade II-listed Black Lion building, which dates back to 1761, was “probably built over two or three medieval burgage plots, as the principal coaching inn of Cardigan”.
