CARDIFF

- RUTH MOSALSKI

University academic has spoken of her torment after pictures of her progress at the gym were used to create AI-generated sexualised images.Dr Daisy Dixon, a philosophy lecturer, had already seen that her profile picture had been taken by other people - mainly men - and alterations made to her image.

First, she saw her hair changed, or her outfit, sometimes clown makeup was added.

But it was when her fitness photo was taken by strangers she noticed the biggest acceleration.

Speaking on the BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour programme, she said: “It started about a week ago or so, and I noticed in random other posts I was making, it appeared to be mostly men, would start taking my profile picture and start at first just altering the colour of my hair, put me in different clothing, put clown makeup on me, which seems to be a motif at the moment.

“But then in the last few days, it escalated when I posted a gym progress photo.

“I was fully clothed, it was just me showing off my biceps, basically, and more and more users started asking Grok to put me in a bikini, in various colours, in micro-bikinis, but they also started to alter parts of my body.

“Decrease, for instance, my muscles, but increase, let's just say other parts of me and in a highly sexualised way.”
