600-job plan to transform old Ford site

PLANS to turn a former car engine factory into a new data centre with a promise of around 600 jobs have been submitted to the local council.
The plans were first put forward by US-based Vantage Data Centres in 2024 and could see the construction of a new data centre campus on the site of the former Ford engine plant in Waterton, Bridgend.
The huge facility was closed by Ford in September 2020 after 40 years of operations in a move that was described at the time as a major blow for workers in the area.
However, the site could soon see a new long-term development take shape if approved by the local planning authority, with a new data centre that would be used by large companies to store, process, and manage huge amounts of data.
