Stamp duty should be abolished, star tells MPs

TV personality Kirstie Allsopp has told MPs she thinks stamp duty should be abolished, arguing that the tax is damaging the stock of homes for first-time buyers.

Speaking at a Treasury Committee hearing, the Location, Location, Location presenter, right, was asked if she thinks stamp duty should be abolished, and responded: “I do.”

Asked if she was seeing speculation about changes to stamp duty affecting behaviour in the housing market, Ms Allsopp said: “I'm seeing it all the time... what I see is young people buying more expensive houses really than they can afford because they know they can’t pay stamp duty twice.
