TIM FOSTER LOOKS BACK ON HIS YEAR ON THE ALLOTMENT - ENTIRELY DIFFERENT TO 2024, WITH ITS DISTINCT LACK OF RAIN
-
As promised a couple of weeks ago, here is a little review of the 2025 growing season.
Middling.
Well, that is a very little review, and I think I wrote that last year, too. Maybe it is the same every year - some things do better than others, next year it is round the other way. Your particular experience will also depend on what you were able to manage. Last year, with the spring and summer's biblical deluge (I contemplated converting the shed into an ark and loading it with two of each vegetable), the onus was on us to stem the tide of molluscs. So ravenous were the slugs, I reckon my jeans would have been converted to shorts if I had stood in the same place for too long. And then we got on with growing vegetables when the sun came out in July. Result?
Middling.

Wartime ruse may be the solution to overtourism crisis
LOTS of things make holidaying a strain — lost luggage, food poisoning, extensible suitcase handles ~ but the worst is, of course, other holidaymakers, and not only because the loutish conduct of many Brits abroad makes it that much harder for the rest of us to find a warm welcome.
