Plans to use historic church as community music venue axed

PLANS to turn a landmark Hereford building into a centre for music education have fallen through.

There are now fears about the future of the Grade II-listed St Nicholas' Church, prominently sited at the corner of the A49 Victoria Street and Barton Road, north of the city's Greyfriars Bridge, which closed for worship on May 1.
It had been lined up for use as a community music venue run by local charity Encore Enterprises, formerly Hereford Music Service, to be part-funded by the Stronger Towns Fund (STF) programme for the city.
But Hereford Diocese, which owns the church, has confirmed that the sale to Encore will not now go through.
