HIGHWAYS issues and viability concerns have pushed a decision ona long-awaited Taunton housing development back to the spring of 2026.

Persimmon and Redrow put forward plans in December 2021 for phase two of the Monkton Heathfield urban extension, which will deliver more than 1,400 new homes at Taunton’s northeastern edge.

‘A decision on the plans has been delayed repeatedly since September 2022, during which time the masterplan has been altered through substantial negotiations between the developers and planning officials.

Nearly a year from the last update, the council's planning officials have admitted that a decision will not be taken until the middle of next year due to ongoing concerns about overall viability of the development and the new roads which will connect it to the county town.
