Death toll after flooding in south-East Asia passes 1,300 people

EMERGENCY crews have been trying to reach survivors as the death toll from last week’s catastrophic floods and landslides surged past 1,300 in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand - with more than 800 people missing.

Days of heavy monsoon rains have inundated vast areas, leaving thousands of people in southeast Asia stranded, and many clinging to rooftops and trees waiting for help.
