Airport boss steps down amid sale to new owner

LOUCESTERSHIRE Airport's managing director is to step down for personal reasons as its incoming owner announces a “bold” vision for future aviation growth.

- CARMELO GARCIA Local Democracy Reporter

The 350-acre Staverton airport, which is jointly owned by Cheltenham Borough and Gloucester City Council, is in the process of being sold.

The site is run by Gloucestershire Airport Limited, which was established in 1993 and of which both councils have a 50 per cent shareholding.

But the two authorities revealed in November 2023 their intention to dispose of the site which has struggled commercially

Horizon Aero Group Limited (HAG), the incoming owner of Gloucestershire Airport Limited (GAL), unveiled this week a social value charter which they say sets out a bold vision to transform the airport into a thriving, sustainable, and inclusive regional hub.

This announcement has coincided with the news that the airport's current managing director, Jason Ivey, will be stepping down in January for personal reasons. Council chiefs say Mr Ivey, pictured, has played a pivotal role in the airport's development and he is fully committed to supporting a smooth transition to Horizon Aero Group's ownership.
