Council removes diseased trees over safety fears

A COUNCIL has defended its decision to cut down two large trees at a busy park.

Truro City Council cut down a poplar and a copper beech at the entrance to Boscawen Park on the grounds that they were no longer safe because they were riddled with fungus and disease.

Tree surgeons cordoned off the area and used a mobile extending aerial platform to remove the trees’ upper limbs.

In a post on its Facebook page, the council said consultants had identified the trees as suffering from the advanced stages of disease.

One was near the main entrance from the car park and the other overhung the children’s play area.
