Would-Be Volunteers Get Buried in Paperwork

Mary Julia Koch identifies several valid reasons for “The Volunteerism Drought” (oped, Nov 25), but she overlooks a significant one: bureaucracy.

Today’s volunteer process is buried under paperwork, background checks, interviews, online classes, reporting portals, passwords, logins and endless digital hoops. What once took a couple of weeks can now drag on for months.
